DTN COMMENTS:  The country remains quiet this afternoon with just 
a few bids on the table in parts of Nebraska. Asking prices are 
being noted at $187 in the South, but they are still not 
established in the North. Significant trade volume will likely be 
delayed until sometime Friday. 

Today's slaughter totaled 124,000 head, even with last week, but 
1,000 below a year ago. Live cattle futures closed mixed, mostly 
lower, off 142 to up 22. Feeder contracts ended the day also 
mixed, but mostly higher, up 72 to off 75, deferred issues fared 
better than nearbys. Cattle futures are expected to close lower 
with moderate to good box movement.
